Interns In Action

On Campus Efforts

Read about the impact our interns are making at their campuses across the country.

DeSales University Dining Services’ social media has been capturing the attention of the campus community thanks to the efforts of its team of marketing interns and their friends.

Eileen Murphy, a senior marketing major from Cherry Hill, N.J., and Caroline Stierle, a senior marketing major from Branchburg, N.J., are in their second year as interns with DeSales Dining, operated by Sodexo, and were joined this semester by Jodee Domey, a junior marketing major from Wakefield, Mass. Together, they’ve been creating and posting a lot of creative videos on the dining social media pages that feature and partner with the campus community.

After attending Ramapo College of New Jersey, Ramapo Dining’s new field marketing specialist is using her student experience to drive new partnerships between campus groups and dining.

Faith Chang earned her degree in business management from Ramapo in May 2023, and during her time there, worked as a marketing intern for dining services.

“Originally I did it for fun, because I like graphic design and making things look nice,” Chang said. “I just developed a passion for marketing.”

When the position of marketing specialist opened in October 2023, Chang took the job.

One of the things she had noticed when she was a student and intern was that dining had a lot of events with big turnouts in the fall semester, such as the holiday and Thanksgiving dinners, but nothing as big for the spring. She wanted to change that.

Howard Dining comprises a team of managers, chefs, food service workers and student workers to provide a dynamic dining experience for the campus community. Another part of that dining team is the student interns, who, through Sodexo, get on-the-job experience in fields like marketing and dietetics.

Howard Dining Marketing Manager Chaheed Campbell works with a team of marketing interns to help promote dining on campus, and plan special events.

“Supporting the career growth of my marketing interns at Howard University is a core part of my mission,” Campbell said. “Mentorship holds incredible value, and just as others invested in my own journey, I’m committed to pouring into the next generation of talent. Career development is a shared responsibility, and we all contribute to shaping the experiences that help interns navigate and build their futures.”

Fernando Peña’s first job experience with Sodexo was as a student food service worker at a SUNY Oneonta dining hall.

His second Sodexo job experience also came as a student, but this time, it was in Bangkok, Thailand working in business development.

Peña was a participant in Sodexo’s global internship program at SUNY Oneonta, which allows college students to take part in a project work experience overseas at another Sodexo location.

Sodexo at Oneonta started the global internship program in 2013, when they wanted to align their program with some of the pillars of the campus, including global connectedness.
